Period homes

Heritage security door designs

Terraces, Edwardians and bungalows deserve better than a flat grey panel. Heritage designs with modern security underneath, made for Melbourne's north.

The inner-north specialty

Security that suits the streetscape

From Northcote terraces to Thornbury Edwardians and Coburg bungalows, the north is full of frontages worth protecting properly. A heritage security door keeps the period character at the front of the house and puts tested security hardware behind it.

Cast aluminium corners and panels recreate classic Victorian scrollwork; simpler pressed and geometric patterns suit Edwardian and Californian bungalow eras. Colour-matched powder coating ties the door to your existing trim, fence and verandah detail.

Underneath, it\'s a full security door: 316 stainless or IntrudaGuard mesh, triple-point locking and steel fixed-pin hinges.

Heritage FAQ
Will a security door ruin my period facade?
Not if it's designed for it. Colonial castings, scroll patterns and heritage profiles are made to sit naturally on Victorian and Edwardian frontages, and the colour is matched to your trim.
Which designs suit which era?
As a rule of thumb: ornate cast corners and scrollwork for Victorian terraces, simpler geometric patterns for Edwardian and Californian bungalows, and clean flat profiles for interwar and deco homes. We bring the pattern book to the measure.
Is the security real or just decorative?
Real. Behind the castings sits the same construction as our plain doors: tested mesh, triple-point locking, steel fixed-pin hinges and a keyed deadlock.
My doorway is an odd size. Problem?
Normal for the inner north. Every door is made to measure, so 19th-century openings that have moved a little over the decades are routine.
Do I need heritage approval?
For most homes a security door is fine, but if your street has a heritage overlay it's worth a quick check with council. Sympathetic designs and colours make approval much easier, and that's exactly what we quote.
